Melinis Savannah is an ornamental grass. It is widely used in beds and in landscaping mixed with colorful bedding plants. Melinis grows best in warmer climates, where they may be a perennial. In colder climates, the colors will fade in Fall and Winter months but still maintain their beauty until the first heavy snow. Melinis grows compact, up to 36-42” tall when it matures. The grassy leaves grow in a thick clump. The blue-green, spiky foliage is soft to the touch. In mid-Spring, the grass puts on deep rose plumes that are approximately 3-4 inches. As the plant matures, the blooms fade from deep rose through shades of pink, finally arriving at a pale cream color. In the midst of the summer when plant is in full bloom, all shades will be present. They are beautiful anywhere in your landscape and in fresh and dried floral arrangements as well.
